A little while back, I held a contest to give away 2 copies of the FORTRESS FRONTIER ARC. The contest rules were to create and name a new SHADOW OPS universe Coven, based on some prose from CONTROL POINT. To be honest, I really didn’t expect that much of a response.
Boy, was I wrong.
Over 20 entries later, I am amazed at how much creative effort has gone into creating amazing new Covens. I’ve said before that one of the most gratifying things about writing is seeing my art inspiring others, and this is that experience writ large. Thanks to all who entered. I had a really hard time picking my two winners and put it off as long as I could, but in the end, I had to make my choices:
Winner #1 is Mike, whose Tredici Coven (C13-T) is a really clever play on the idea of luck in war.
Winner #2 is Logan, whose Arcturus Coven (C20-A) is a nod to the guardian role of the brightest star in the Boötes constellation.
So. Incredibly. Awesome. I’ll contact the winners by email.
There were so many amazing entries, and there are a few that I want to point out in particular. I wish I could post them all, but I’ve got server space limitations to contend with. Suffice to say I’ve been overwhelmed with amazing entries, and I am so so so thrilled with the effort everyone put in.
Here are the honorable mentions:
Lauren, with C18-V – Virgo Coven, an irreverent take on a constellation and a number:
Pete, with C21-C – Crateris Coven. Sure, he went outside the specified numbers, but that’s what makes it work.
Ward, with C13-I – Infaust Coven. Another clever play on the luck idea.
And Doug, with C12-B – Bard Coven, a cool nod to Shakespeare with a hand drawn patch to go with it.
Once again, I’m blown away by all the creativity you put into this. I wish I had ARCs to give everyone. Thanks so much for entering!
If you’re a book reviewer with a registered NetGalley address, you can email my publicist at to get an eCopy of the ARC for FORTRESS FRONTIER. We are asking that all reviews be held until after January 1st 2013. Thanks for your patience!
The only problem with having such a successful contest is how to top it. I’m going to have to think long and hard on the next one. Feel free to shoot me ideas!
